PG's Workout Plan: Week 2

Last week, I hope you all enjoyed my amazing trainer’s Ryan’s work out tip. Now that I am officially back from Nepal, I need to get rid of those extra lbs I gained at home! I met with Ryan yesterday for an hour-long trainer session. Check out his work out tips for this week below!

Guest Blogger Ryan Hopkins: Just burn and breathe. I was always taught that the "fat burning" heart rate zone is in the low 110's to 130 beats per minute. This has recently proven to be less than accurate. It has been shown that high intensity (meaning high heart rate) interval training is what works best for common folks when it comes to fat loss. What you are looking for is called EPOC. This stands for Excess Post Exercise Oxygen Consumption. EPOC occurs when the intensity of your exercise does not allow your body to take in enough oxygen needed to perform the exercise. Your body can burn fat without the presence of oxygen so at this point this is the ideal fuel for your body. Once the exercise has been completed EPOC kicks in to try to fill that oxygen debt. EPOC comes with an elevated consumption of fuel. As a result, fat stores are broken down and free fatty acids (FFA) are released into the blood. Once in a "recovery state", the direct oxidation of free fatty acids as fuel begins and continues long after the exercise and workout are completed, sometimes as long as 6 to 7 hours post workout. The main point is get on that treadmill, elliptical, stair master, or bike and push yourself! Get that heart rate up! As little as 30 seconds of a sprint of any kind, followed by 1 minute of rest repeated anywhere from 5-10 times will give a significant boost to your fat loss efforts.

Thank you Ryan for that amazing advice. Whenever I am doing cardio there is no better way to get my heart rate up then good energetic music!! Here is a list of songs that are always included on my ipod's workout list!

Prabal’s Workout Favorites
“Running Up The Hill” -Kate Bush
Anything and Everything Lady Gaga
“They Way You Make Me Feel”- Michael Jackson

Hit me up on my facebook and let me know your favorite workout jams. I am always looking for new music to add to my list.

Thank You! Thank You!

Tick tock... tick tock... one day until show time! I am so thankful to all my friends, "sistaz" and family for being unbelievably supportive during the preparation of my first runway show. I could not have done it without each and every one of you. There is no better way to tell someone thank you, than hand writing a thank you note. It only takes a second, but the impact lasts forever. My favorite place to buy thank you notes and flat cards is Kate’s Paperie in Soho. The store is not only beautiful, but has an amazing array of cards, unique hand-made wrapping papers and pretty pieces for your home. With my show tomorrow, I am stocking up! xoP

Oh So Clean!

I can’t believe I've just presented my first runway show! It seems like
only yesterday we started preparing. I want to take this opportunity to
give a shoot out to my models. Your incredible energy helped bring the
collection to life. During fashion week models are constantly running to
shows with crazy hair and make up. I noticed they have a lot of make up
stains on their own personal clothes, so as a little gift I've given out
OxiClean Max Force Pretreater Gel Sticks, it is the best product when it comes to getting out make-up stains. The applicator top allows you to rub the gel directly onto the stain for maximum penetration.

Snow Snow Go Away

I don't know about you, but I am ready for the warm weather! To keep the winter blues away, I love to curl up with a good book and warm drink by a roaring fireplace. Since NYC living doesn't offer the latter, my go-to place is The Bean coffeeshop on my block corner. A neighborhood favorite, they serve amazing coffee and teas in a cozy atmosphere and friendly staff. I'm heading there now with 'Never Let Me Go' by Kazuo Ishiguro. A haunting story of friendship and love... trust me when I say you will never want to put it down!

If I Was On A Deserted Island...

... the one thing I would bring is... Bumble and Bumble’s Tonic Lotion! Anyone can use it... dry, thin or greasy hair. I love this product because it has all natural ingredients such as; herbs, vitamins, & tea tree oil. The tonic lotion makes your scalp feels nice and tingly and is the perfect product for winter because it helps repair dry coarse hair. I mean, you have to look good even if there is no one around! One To Watch: Photographer Michael Fivis

Fivis is a 21-year-old New Yorker living in Brooklyn and exploring GIF art and photography with his self-titled website. Filled with palpable energy, his "3-D" GIF images fill the niche between still photos and video combining old and new techniques with a vintage look.

Michael and I were introduced through mutual friends; I became a fan of his candid "3-D" photos of Williamsburg rock shows. I commissioned Michael to shoot backstage for my Fall 2010 runway show because I felt that his raw style would be perfect for my inspiration.

Check out Michael’s 3-D GIF art at: http://michael.fivis.net and on fashionista

When sending a model down the runway there are no room for fashion faux pas. As a designer, you want people to focus on your clothing, and not your model’s revealing panty line. Thank you Her Look for taking care of this problem! All my models wear Her Look’s seamless Commando thongs. I never have to worry about something looking out of place on the runway. Become a fan of the Commando page on Facebook . For every 25 new fans who join, Her Look is giving away signature thongs.

My closest friends and family know that I love to dance! So I knew I had to find an amazing DJ to orchestrate the runway. Kris Bones is an incredibly talented London DJ and music producer.
