Scarlett Johansen on Broadway - Rob Ashford's Cat on a Hot Tin Roof..

Unsurprisingly - The most anticipated event of the Broadway season.

Tennessee Williams' Pulitzer-Prize Winning drama Cat on a Hot Tin Roof has been known for many iconic performances of the character Maggie by some of the greats - Jessica Lange, Kathleen Turner, Ashley Judd and Anika Noni Rose followed Elizabeth Taylor.

Cat on a Hot Tin Roof is one of Tennessee's dark studies of familial breakdown. "Big Daddy" Pollitt, the richest cotton planter in the Mississippi Delta, is distressed by the relationship between his son Brick, an aging football hero who has turned to drink, and Brick’s beautiful and feisty wife Maggie. Tennessee uses the veneer of southern gentility to explore the cataclysmic repercussions of deceit, greed, suppressed sexuality and ultimately the disintegration of the masculine fantasy.

To some surprise, Scarlett J has announced that she will be DOWNplaying Maggie's sexuality (recall Taylor, temptress in her satin slip).

She tells the Huffington Post 'I think her sexuality is often overplayed and over-appreciated. It's such an unimportant part of this story,'

'If that puts a dent in the box office, so be it' she quips. 'There's always the half-price ticket line.'

Somehow hard to believe it will - and as much as she downplays, there is no doubt some element of Johansen's renowned allure will remain.. a demure subtlety may be the making of Ashford's production.
