Shelburne Museum : In Fashion: High Style, 1690-2011

Prabal is making his way to Shelburne Vermount this summer. This small town near Lake Champlain is known for its exquisite museum which is housing Prabal's work in an exhibition titled In Fashion: High Style, 1690-2011. The exhibit consists of over 75 costumes from the Museum's personal collection plus a number of borrowed pieces from influential designers such as Carolina Herrera, Balenciaga and Karl Lagerfeld. Design students from the Fashion Institute of Technology competed to have their work be part of this exhibition. The students were asked to create designs that went hand in hand with the Museum's historic bodice collection. Eight winning student designs were picked which will be on exhibit next to the selection of vintage bodices. Prabal was asked to lend a piece that in some way reflected or drew influence from the Shelburne Museum’s vintage couture collection. Prabal choose the black and white fringe dress from Spring 2011 which will be on display next to the above black silk net 1920's flapper style dress. Prabal's dress "imparts a sense of motion with the strips of fabric that move with the wearer, a fluidity similar to that of the flapper dress", says Leslie Wright (PR and Marketing Manager, Shelburne Museum).
